Coming over for a Wrexham game?

The Lakehouse is a cabin for two in the English countryside, just over the border from Wales and around 20 minutes' drive from the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham. After the noise of matchday, come back to complete quiet: a private lake, a log burner, and a copper bath on the deck under the stars.

Why stay here

  • Close to the ground, far from the crowds: countryside on one side of the border, the Racecourse on the other.

  • Made for couples: adults only, completely private, and nothing like a city hotel.

  • Two countries in one weekend: Wales for the football, England for Chester and the Cheshire countryside.

Getting here

  • Flying in: Manchester Airport is about 45 miles / 55 min drive and Liverpool about 35 miles / 45 min drive. Hiring a car makes the most of the area.

  • The nearest stations: Chester for us, Wrexham General for the ground.

  • On matchday: Wrexham is about 20 minutes' drive. If you're both having a drink, book a taxi back in advance.

Getting tickets

  • Buy only through the club's official website. Unofficial resale sites charge inflated prices, and tickets may be void.

  • Home tickets sell out fast and are mostly allocated to club members, so join the club and plan ahead.

  • Hospitality packages guarantee a seat and are often the surest option if you're travelling a long way.

  • Kick off times move for TV. Check the fixture is confirmed before you book flights, and book the cabin as soon as you have your dates.

On matchday

  • The Racecourse is the world's oldest international football ground. Arrive early to soak it up.

  • The Turf, the pub next to the ground, is the classic place for a pint before the game.

Make a weekend of it

In and around Wrexham

  • Erddig · 25 min drive: a National Trust house just outside town, loved for telling the servants' story as well as the family's, with one of Britain's finest walled gardens.

  • Bersham and Plas Power Woods: a riverside woodland walk from St Mary's Church, crossing a stretch of Offa's Dyke. Perfect the morning after a match.

  • Chirk Castle · 30 min drive: a medieval fortress still lived in after 700 years, with gardens, parkland and its own stretch of Offa's Dyke.

  • Pontcysyllte Aqueduct: a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk across, or take a narrowboat over the "stream in the sky".

  • William Aston Hall: Wrexham's biggest theatre and concert venue. See what's on during your stay.

  • Wrexham Lager: one of Britain's oldest lagers.

Closer to the cabin

  • Chester · 20 min drive: the Roman walls, the medieval Rows and the cathedral, with lunch at Sticky Walnut or dinner at Upstairs at the Grill.

  • A proper Sunday roast at the Cock O'Barton, a mile up the lane, or the Cholmondeley Arms.

  • The Sandstone Ridge: a walk with views right across to the Welsh hills, finishing at the Pheasant Inn.
